Numerical Study on Flow and Noise Characteristics of an NACA0018 Airfoil with a Porous Trailing Edge

An airfoil with a porous trailing edge has low noise emission; thus, using medium is good technique for further reduction of wind turbine noise. In this paper, to reduce while minimizing the negative influence on aerodynamic performance, new filling method proposed such that only used in suction side half edge, which more sensitive generation. The large eddy simulation (LES) flow and Ffowcs Williams Hawkings (FW-H) acoustics are used. At Reynolds number 2.63 × 105 various angles attack, an NACA0018 profile covering 20% chord studied under two configurations, namely fully suction-side type. results show direction, velocity magnitude, their distributions along boundary layer airfoils significantly modified due presence medium. fluctuation pressure coefficient increase thickness significant at attack.
